Every so often someone comes in our front door and asks us if we carry tumbled rocks or crystals or geodes. We’ve always had a few examples of certain types of gemstone crystals, amber, pearls and ammolite displayed in our cases but Nancy has always thought it would be fun to have at least a small portion of the store set aside as a rock shop – especially since several of the former rock shops in the Fredericksburg area have closed in recent years.
About a month ago that dream started to become a reality when we began transforming the upstairs front room at Gemstone Creations into a rock and shell shop. It’s still a work in progress but we are starting to bring in tumbled rocks, geode slices, fun packages like Feng Shui, Chakra and Computer rock sets and added them to some rock pendants that we already had in-stock.
With our love of the beach we also thought that pairing seashells with the rocks would be a natural progression. We’ve also started bringing in a variety of shells with baskets of colorful cowries, scallops, whelks and even a scoop your own grab bag bowl. Many of the shells come from locations throughout the world including Pacific Rim countries and are the popular styles that you find in shell shops at the beach.
We are rapidly learning the properties of many of the rocks and crystals and the names and locations where all the shells can be found. If we don’t know or we don’t have it, we also have some reference books that are available to search through. Who wouldn’t like to pick up a few shells for a project or to add a nautical theme to a room or area of their home or business?
